arcachon
deserted in the cold months (love this) crowded in the summer. some say the area is a new st tropez. as much money but less show-off. anyway... the town became a reputed seaside resort in the early 19th century and the numerous villas built then are a testimony of a beautiful bourgeois architecture. arcachon is also the 16th fishing port of the country (out of 40).
we enjoyed a little break there in march, and L got to taste her first cannelé. a world famous little cake originally made in the nearby city of bordeaux (but you may try to bake your own) we ate a wonderful cheese & spinach late lunch here and were right on time to see the gorgeous mimosa in full blossom. a 5 hour+ drive south of here and i really want to go again...
